So, on a ship with fourteen passenger decks, your best options are below deck seven. Standard-size cabins with oversized balconies are also sometimes sandwiched between suites. Suites themselves are usually the best option if cruising with a guaranteed big balcony is your goal. Cabin placement can have a major impact on your cruise experience, regardless of the cruise line or ship you've chosen.
Cabin Selection on Various Decks
Interior staterooms tend to be the cheapest onboard, as they have no windows. While you won't have a personal verandah, you will have natural light and be able to look at the passing scenery. We also recommend avoiding the lower decks at the front of the ship, where the sound of the anchor chain being raised and lowered at each port stop can disrupt your peace.
The Devastating Environmental Consequences of Plastic Pollution

Cabins near the spa
If you’re worried about getting seasick, the best place for you to be is mid-ship on a lower deck. Booking a room at the very center of the vessel will reduce the motion you might feel while you’re hanging out in the cabin or before bed. However, counting the decks on your cruise ship might be a bit trickier than it seems. The actual number of decks differs from the number of passenger decks, or areas on the ship where guests are allowed. Among the cabin placements we’ve already talked about, there are options to fit almost any budget.
What is the best deck to avoid motion sickness?
You’ll have a much better chance of getting a good night’s rest and not being kept up all night. Decks above the ship’s primary deck (#1) can be numbered as #A2 (A for Above), while those below are #2, #3, etc. I once had a cabin on deck 14 on the Oasis and never will do this again. I´ve just returned on Sunday from the Harmony having had an Ocean View on deck 9 close to the aft staircase.
One of the devastating consequences of plastic pollution is the harm it causes to marine life and the disruption it creates in ecosystems. Through these efforts, we are making significant progress in improving marine habitats and reducing plastic waste. I’m dedicated to improving ocean ecosystems by actively participating in cleanup efforts and removing harmful debris from beaches and shores.
What Is the Best Level to Stay on a Cruise Ship?
If you’re more into watersports, parks, sunbathing, and swimming, choosing the upper decks would be more convenient and practical. The upper decks are also ideal for people who would want to capture the scenic view of the whole area. The best cabin on the deck would be one that is near other cabins.
Some cruise vessels — particularly river ships — have cabins clustered at their backs with public areas at their fronts. Let’s say you want to know the best deck for an ocean view, seasickness, or other concern. The symptoms of seasickness, such as nausea, dizziness, and vomiting, can significantly mar your cruise experience. But the good news is that the location of your stateroom can help minimize these effects.

Here’s how to select the best cruise ship cabin for your needs, whether you're seeking breathtaking views, peace and quiet, convenience, or the best value. If you choose a cabin on the promenade deck, opt for a cabin with a window rather than a balcony, as the window consists of one-way glass, preventing people from looking straight into your cabin. Moreover, a cabin near the exit door may be a very loud area, with passengers moving around and making noise as they get off the cruise ship. The combination of exquisite food, world-class entertainment, and the breathtaking setting made the naming ceremony an unforgettable experience for all who attended. The Manhattan Cruise Terminal provided a fitting backdrop for the grandeur of the event, creating a night to remember for everyone present. This will likely result in you being allocated a cabin at the front or back of the ship, but it will save you money. Decide how much you’re willing to spend and remember that while the cabin is important, you’ll also want to budget for on-board activities, excursions, beverages, and other expenses. A long walk to the elevator may not be what you want, or you would like to have a bit more privacy in your cabin. Whatever you are looking for, the following decks are not ideal for a pleasant trip.
Decks 14 and 15 are often good choices for adventure seekers, as they are close to the ship’s sports decks and other outdoor activities. Additionally, many cruise lines offer adventure excursions, so choosing a deck that is close to the excursion desk can help you plan your next adventure. The view and privacy of your cabin is also an important factor to consider when choosing a deck on a cruise ship. If you want a cabin with a view of the ocean, you will want to choose a deck that is located higher up on the ship. However, if you value privacy, you may want to choose a deck that is located lower down on the ship, as these cabins are typically more secluded.
On other ships, you might have to get a cabin one deck below the pool. If you're looking for a peaceful night's sleep, it's advisable to steer clear of cabins located in proximity to the pool deck. Furthermore, selecting accommodations near elevators, casinos, theaters, or nightclubs can significantly reduce your chances of getting a restful sleep. If you have mobility considerations, it's a wise choice to select a stateroom situated near an elevator on the lower deck, where the dining area is typically situated. Given the necessity for regular meals throughout the day, having the elevator in close proximity ensures convenient access to other decks. Furthermore, being on a lower deck is advantageous as it positions you closer to the embarkation and disembarkation point, simplifying your experience on the cruise's first and last day.
Others might argue that the best decks for closer views of the sea and what’s going on outside are the lower decks. Even more luxurious is the accommodation on Decks 15 and 16 on Edge-series ships. These magnificent duplex Edge Villas come with their own private plunge pool and floor-to-ceiling glass. On Solstice-series ships, most of these are on Decks 6, 7 and 8, although others are scattered around the ship. The best deck on a cruise ship depends very much on the ship and what’s important for you, so there’s no single answer to the question of which deck is best.
